Sally's Full Bio
From 1988-1999, Sally was executive director of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, a 5,000-member nonprofit organization with 35 chapters. She was the organization’s primary spokesperson, giving more than 2,000 media interviews, speeches, and presentations. She organized more than a dozen protests, met with dozens of elected officials, and represented the interests of fat people before national regulatory agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration.
Following her tenure at NAAFA, she served as editor-in-chief of BBW Magazine, a plus-size fashion magazine, as well as several other consumer magazines. She has worked as a freelance writer and editor over the past two decades, and as an independent educational consultant helping families navigate the path after high school.
Sally served as a board member of Nolose, a nonprofit that creates vibrant fat queer and trans culture, and currently serves as the organization’s treasurer.
